Welcome to Part 3 of the Insider’s Guide to ILTACON 2017! On Friday, I highlighted the sessions we’re most looking forward to catching at the conference.

Today I’ve organized the sessions by topic of interest, so you can focus your time at ILTACON. Below I’ve also listed some vendors to check out at the conference.

Focus Areas

Security

11:00AM – 12:00PM on Monday, 8/14: Building an Effective Defense with Limited Budget

 Jasmine C,D

Security costs money. No way around it. This is a great topic, especially for small firms.

4:00PM- 5:00PM on Monday, 8/14: Keeping Up with the Current Threat Landscape by Adam Pranter, FBI

 Jasmine A,B

Adam Prantar is a great speaker. He works for the FBI, and you will be hearing from an all-around cybersecurity expert from outside Legal IT. This will be fascinating for security newbies and veterans alike.

Windows 10

1:30PM – 2:30PM on Wednesday, 8/16: Securing the Modern Workstation

 Oceanside B

How can you protect your desktop from the bad guys? Windows 7 and 10 include effective security tools but you have to know where to find them. Join Kraft Kennedy to find out what you might be missing. Click the link above for more details and to add it to your calendar.

8:00AM – 9:00AM on Tuesday, 8/15: Patching Changes: How to Manage the New Windows 10 and Office Updates

Meeting Room Session

Deferred channels, build retirements, and service branches – the world of Microsoft is changing. In this session, we will review how Microsoft has modified its support and upgrade strategy to incorporate the new Feature Updates for Windows 10. After an overview of the branch model and how MS has positioned the various offerings of Windows 10, we will dive into patching strategy and what works best at firms deploying these new upgrades. A discussion of task sequence best practices within SCCM will be followed by specific examples of how firms can leverage this functionality as part of their patching strategy in Windows 10. We will also discuss configuration and deployment of Windows 10 and Office cumulative updates, and what these changes mean for law firms. Lastly, we will demo a proof of concept for managing Windows-as-a-Service within an organization, and how firms can use different collections to streamline deployments. Click the link above for more details and to add it to your calendar.

Exchange 2016

11:15AM – 12:15PM on Thursday, 8/17: Exchange 2016 Upgrade Scenarios

Jasmine G,H

Are you thinking about an upgrade? Come learn about new features in Exchange 2016 and Exchange Online that provide benefits for law firms. Then we’ll explore upgrade scenarios for Exchange 2016 on-premises deployments, full migrations to Exchange Online and hybrids in between. A panel of ILTA member law firms will close things out by discussing how they upgraded, the reasons for their decisions and lessons learned along the way. Click the link above for more details and to add it to your calendar.

9:00AM– 10:00AM on Thursday, 8/17: O365 and Exchange eDiscovery Capabilities

South Seas D

There is a lot of value in knowing about this. There’s also a lot of misinformation out there. There are some eDiscvery tools built into Exchange, but it’s for information that’s on your tenant, not on your client’s. This is important to understand for legal holds.

Document Management

11:00AM – 12:00PM on Monday, 8/14: DMS Upgrades & Migrations: Before You Leap, in South Seas Ballroom D

#ILTAG1

Not all document management systems (DMSs) are created equal. New DMS options aimed at reducing costs and increasing productivity include on-premises systems, hosted systems, and software as a service (SaaS). If you’re thinking about a DMS upgrade or migration, make sure you look before you leap! A panel of peers will share lessons learned from their experiences changing vendors and making major upgrades to current systems, and they’ll answer your burning questions.

2:30PM – 3:30PM on Monday, 8/14: NetDocuments: The Trusted Cloud Platform for Legal,

DMS projects are some of the most complex out there. Many firms are now switching platforms or miving from on-premises to the cloud. Planning and understanding is key.

Project Management

8:00AM – 9:00AM on Thursday, 8/17 : Project Delivery with PMaaS

Surf D

This session is a must for anyone struggling with an ever-growing project portfolio that’s crying out for structure, processes, and predictability. Many law firms have been forced to dissolve their PMOs due to budget cuts. As a result, they rely on their already busy staff to assume the additional responsibilities of project manager and encounter recurring issues and failures on projects. In this session, we will discuss how a firm with or without an internal PMO can deliver successful projects, on time and on budget. Join experienced project managers Pat Mansuy and Mike Walls to learn how leading firms with proactive goals for a modern legal practice are turning to PMaaS—outsourced project management. Click the link above for more details and to add it to your calendar.

2:00PM – 3:00PM  on Thursday, 8/17: Successful Legal Project Management

South Seas A

Vendors

There are over 150 vendors at ILTACON this year. Here are a few we’re interested in this year. Please note that while we are partnered with many companies that offer technology that our client base uses—including competing companies—we are strictly vendor-neutral.

Kraft Kennedy at Booth 601/603

I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind you to stop by the Kraft Kennedy Booth——near the car that we might be giving to a lucky hole-in-one winner from the golf tournament. We are also giving away a Surface Pro and offering hands-on demos with our Oculus rift. Stop by for a quick chat with our experts or schedule a private roadmapping session and return to the office with a plan in hand.
